Technical Details
The MoKanEP repeater is located on a 700’ tower in Joplin, MO (37-04-49.0 N 094-33-26.0 W). The tip of the antenna is at 700’. The antenna is a DB-224E with 6.4db gain and 760’ of 7/8” Andrews Heliax cable connecting it to the Wacom 4 cavity duplexer. The repeater is a Motorola MOTOTRBO series XPR 8300, 100% duty cycle digital TDMA capable repeater. The repeater is tuned through software controlled softpots via USB. The repeater also Supports 25Khz, 12.5Khz and 6.25Khz bandwidth, so we are ready for the future. The repeater controller is a CAT-1000. For surge protection reasons, the controller is powered by the repeater to keep it at the same electrical potential.
There is an 8 channel Motorola Maxtrac mobile radio operating at 45 watts (currently set at 20w due to duty cycle) operating as a remote base radio for repeater linking. Linking is used primarily during severe weather events. The link currently has 4 channels programmed (Fort Scott, Lamar, Parsons, and Neosho). The remote base antenna is a VHF DB-224a at 580’ on the same tower.
The repeater and remote base radio are lighting protected by PolyPhaser commercial grade protection, A/C protection is protected by a Transector commercial grade rack mount bar. Electrical backup of the repeater and remote base radio are provided by three medical grade batteries (provided by K0EFJ). The expected backup time is 3-5 hours under full weathernet conditions with the link operational.

Estimated Base Coverage at 40 feet and 45 watts

Estimated Mobile Coverage at 45 watts
